Sessions
Requirements: Prior Pottery Experience
Ages 16+
No Session Oct. 7th- Nov. 15th
We have a limited number of spots for drop-in pottery sessions. These session are self-guided, no instruction is provided. We will have studio staff available answer questions or show you where things are. You must have experience working with clay. We have strict cleaning guidelines and procedures that everyone must follow.
NOTE: If you are CURRENTLY taking a class (4 or 6 week session) with us, you DO NOT need to pay for a studio session, you already have access via your door code. The drop-in open studio sessions are a way to still do pottery in the breaks between class sessions.
Sessions are 2.5 hours + clean-up. 2lbs of studio clay is included or you can bring your own cone 6 clay. Dipping glazes only, no brush-on glazes or underglaze usage is allowed. Those are part of our members' perks.

FAQ's
Can I glaze and fire additional pieces I made in class?
Yes. This allows you to use our glazes and space to finish up your piece. If you have your own glazes at home, you can also use our outside firing services instead. Outside firing customers use their own glaze supplies and just use our kilns for firing.
If I start a new piece, do I need to pay for each visit?
Yes. When you book an open session you are booking studio space, the use of all our tools and equipment.
Can I store my pieces I am working on?
Yes, we will have a shared shelf for open studio sessions. This will be for wet work only. Space is limited.
I haven't taken a class or workshop with you, can I still sign-up?
Yes, but there is no instruction provided. You must have experience working with clay. Staff can answer general questions and help-problem solve, but we won't be giving lessons. We do have private lessons available if you need more guidance.
If I am just moving items to the "to be bisqued" shelf, do I need to pay for a visit?
No, if you are just moving your pieces to the shelf for bisque firing you can do so during our open studio hours, but you don't need to pay for a session.
What are your drop-in session hours?

**Standard disclaimer**
Portland Clay House makes no guarantees on the end product. Pottery is a finicky art form and we can’t guarantee your piece will be what you hoped and expected it to be. We will do our best to nurture your piece while it’s in our possession. But glazing and firing can have unpredictable results even for the most experienced potters.
