FAQ's

Can I glaze and fire additional pieces I made in class?
Yes. In our classes we allow a certain number of pieces to be glazed per session. This allows you to use our glazes and space to finish up your pieces. If you have your own glazes at home, you can also use our outside firing services instead. Outside firing customers use their own glaze supplies and just use our kilns for firing.

If I start a new piece, do I need to pay for each visit?
Yes. When you book an open session you are booking studio space, the use of all our tools and equipment, and an instructor to answer any questions and help with your projects. A membership may be a great option if you plan on coming a lot or want to make many projects at once.

Can I store my pieces I am working on?
Yes, we will have a shared shelf for open studio sessions. This will be for wet work only. Space is limited.

I haven't taken a class or workshop with you, can I still sign-up?
Since we are working member studio, it is of important all of our cleaning and safety procedures are followed. Former students have had weeks working in the studio and learning our procedures.

Can I just drop-in during the open studio time or do I need to book ahead?

Yes, but we have limited space so you make get turned away. Please see, above, open studio sessions are for former students.

Can I come other times not listed on the calendar?

Possibly. Email us and we can see if we can accommodate other days/times.

We do offer private lessons. Reach out with any questions.

Standard disclaimer:
Portland Clay House makes no guarantees on the end product. Pottery is a finicky art form and we can’t guarantee your piece will be what you hoped and expected it to be. We will do our best to nurture your piece while it’s in our possession. But glazing and firing can have unpredictable results even for the most experienced potters.
